Have you ever driven by a restaurant again and again and just never felt compelled to go in?  That's how I felt about Bar-B-Cutie for months.

I don't know if it was because the restaurant was located in a building that had housed several failed restaurants.  Maybe it was because it did not have a front entry and an inviting presence from the street.  And it certainly might have even been their name, but my first reaction when I saw it go in was "It won't last a year".

But I noticed they were staying busy and there always seemed to be someone in the drive-thru line.   Curiosity finally got the best of me.  When I went in the first time, I didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The restaurant was clean, their condiments were well stocked, and the people behind the serving counter were on the ball.  I could tell their employees were well trained and they really cared about their public image.

I was surprised to see a choice of three vegetables with your meat order, where most restaurants only give you two.  A baked potato counts for two veggies, so you could still have one, plus another veggie, plus the bread and the BBQ.  I thought it was well priced too.

I mentioned how clean the restaurant was.  One thing that really turns me off is walking into a restaurant with lots of dirty tables and food on the floor.  I have never seen that there.  Another example ... when they brought the food out, the silverware was already pre-packaged and sealed for sanitary purposes.  I have only seen one other restaurant do that ... Chuy's in Plano.  I like that concept a lot.

The sliced beef barbeque was very good.  Some restaurants serve the BBQ almost mushy with lots of fat.  A lot of people like that style, but I prefer a leaner cut, and that's what's served at Bar-B-Cutie.

Since my first visit, it seemed like every time I went in, I saw  sheriff's deputy or two having dinner or lunch.  Those guys always know the best places to eat, so if they like it, it must be good.  For some reason, I'm still not crazy about the name, but that's our "go to" place for good barbecue these days.
