Exemplary Performance for Lovejoy ISD

As you know, the Texas Education Agency will release final campus and district ratings in August. Based on our preliminary data, we expect that Lovejoy ISD will continue as an Exemplary District. In 2007, LISD was one of 27 districts out of the 1,137 districts in the State of Texas to reach the Exemplary level. This is significant because our data includes 8th grade science which is the first time statewide that 8th science is included in the ratings and, of course, Lovejoy also includes our data from 10th grade and statewide, 10th grade is the lowest performing high school grade level. As a school district, we enjoyed a strong performance in all subjects and grade levels. This speaks to the talent of the children that you send to our classrooms each day and of the dedicated teachers who are waiting for them each day. We are particularly proud of our strong performance in writing at grades 4 and 7 as evidenced by a 10% and 12% gain respectively in commended performance. Also of note is our exceptionally strong performance in middle school math. Our kids at Sloan Creek Middle School posted a 12% gain in commended performance in both 7th and 8th grade math. This is especially important due to the focus on math in our middle school which aims to move as many kids to Algebra I by 8th grade as possible. The data continues to support that our focused math program with high levels of teacher support is continuing to yield high levels of student learning. Lovejoy ISD recognizes that all children do not learn at the same rate so we have developed an offering of math learning that accommodates for those children who require more time to master the concepts.
