When I run into computer issues, I like to do as much of my own troubleshooting as possible. But every so often something comes up that I just cannot figure out. I recently had a networking issue that went beyond my capabilities. The problem was, I just didn't know whom to call.
I started my Google search and was frustrated to find out most of the advertisers only dealt with companies with many systems and employees. They didn't want the "small business" business, but some said they had "someone" who might be able to help me. I knew I didn't want "Bubba" working on my system, so I passed on them.
My next alternative was calling the well known companies who are affiliated with Best Buy or Circuit City. That was another exercise in frustration. After giving my information to them and trying to explain the problem, I was routed through their system and bounced around a couple of times. I finally just hung up. I also knew that wasn't what I was looking for. Luckily, I found PC Geeks on my third search looking for computer consultant companies located in Allen.
They office on Main Street (across from Rodenbaughs), so they are close. When I called, I actually talked to a friendly person. She scheduled the appointment right away for later in the afternoon and gave me a one hour window. That is how I like to do business, and I'm sure most other people do too.
I met with Matt Taylor. After sharing my networking issues I let him get to work and just watched. He had the problem diagnosed in short order and immediately started setting up my network correctly. What I had spent several days (off and on) trying to troubleshoot, he took care of in about an hour.
The charge was $85, which is very fair for in-home service, but I wouldn't have minded paying twice that amount. My business is like many others ... time is money. If I am wasting time working out computer issues I am not spending my time effectively. Having a company like theirs so close to our office and home is invaluable to me. I would recommend them very highly.
