One of the great things about living in Lucas, Fairview, or even Parker is if you have horses, you don't need to trailer for more than about 10 minutes (or less) to get to a great riding trail. And one of my few regrets with living in Lucas is I never made the time to get more involved with the Trinity Trail Preservation Association. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Trinity Trail, it wraps around Lake Lavon. The original trail was 9 miles long, and it has just been extended even further. Article below ... The land is owned by the Army Corps of Engineers however they have been working with the Trinity Trail Preservation Association for many years turning it into a walking or equestrian trail. It takes a lot of work not only to clear the paths and build the trail, but also to keep it maintained for horses. If you are interested in joining, you will be rubbing shoulders with great people who genuinely love their horses. Here is the link to their website ... http://www.trinitytrailriders.org/ Below is the announcement of the trail extension opening from Tracy Matern and the current Trinity Trail (the new section is not shown) ...
Hello Neighbors,
I have fantastic news....As of Wednesday, June 24th, FM 3286 has been rerouted over the bridges and the barrier rail on the equestrian underpass has been installed. The railing is absolutely fantastic...better than I ever expected. The new trail is now open for riding all the way from Brockdale to Highland Park. From Highland Park to the bridges and back is about 9 miles. The distance from Brockdale to Highland is about 8 miles. To access the trail going either north to Highland Park or south to Brockdale, ride to the end of Holyoak Street and turn left along the side of FM 3286. After passing, Leslie and Pete's property, you will pass a 12 foot Corps gate but keep going until you see an equestrian gate down closer to the underpass. To go to Highland Park, go through the equestrian gate to the north. To go to Brockdale Park, ride on the equestrian underpass and up across the old road to the entrance on the other side. Be careful to watch for large construction vehicles and avoid dangerous situations. They will be taking out the old bridges but we understand it has been temporarily delayed. It could start however at any time, so be alert. Horses don't like scary construction vehicles or blasting. Sincerely, Tracy Matern Below is the original Trinity Trail location. The trail has been extended north across FM 3286. I will put that map on (if there is one). ![]()
