As a non-coffee drinker, I’m a complete neophyte when it comes to coffee. But since I’ve been surrounded by coffee drinkers my entire life, I decided to broaden my horizons a little and try to understand the appeal. Now, I think I’m starting to get it.
After taking the Texakona Roasting tour, I know where coffee trees are located (between the two “Tropics”), how the beans get to America, how they’re stored, ground, blended, sorted, and rated. I was able to ask how their coffee is different from Starbucks and what makes their blends unique. And finally, I got to see my first pour and what it should look like.
The tours are held every Saturday morning at 11 and as I was to find out, that’s a busy time for them. Between selling coffee by the pound, creating their specialty pours, and roasting their newest batch of coffee, it was a busy place. The tours take about 45 minutes.
